I managed the University of Portsmouth’s Corporate Communications team, producing the annual prospectus, strategic documents, campaigns, and all manner of collateral for the University’s external audience. My role included editing, copywriting, and managing the design and proofing of printed communications and digital content from concept to delivery.
I edited and project managed many titles for the Harper Collins Natural History department, including the popular Collins Gem series and the well-established New Naturalists series.
As Editor of the free, monthly community newspaper, The Hayling Islander, I commissioned and prepared all content for publication and undertook design and layout of the paper. In addition, I produced a yearly Directory and Visitors’ Guide for the Island. My role included regularly updating news on the paper’s website.
I wrote two weekly columns for Portsmouth’s local paper, The News, meeting the deadline and word count as specified by the Features Editor.
I develop print and online content for Nature’s Frontline, a conservation communication organisation. This includes working with video, images and editorial from rangers across the world, and production of a newsletter for the Ranger Federation of Asia. I also liaise with conservation partners and produce press releases for relevant media outlets.
I established, edited and published Families Solent East, a magazine franchise providing information and advice to families with young children in south-east Hampshire. I undertook all editorial work, advertising sales, design liaison and print buying, and managed a team of distributors. I also wrote features for the Families Magazines parent company, which they made available as editorial to all their franchisees.
